Yes. New Heights is authorized by the Texas Education Agency as a Subchapter G Adult High School Charter. We follow the public school education code and regulations as outlined in the statute for adult high schools. We do not take resources from K-12 districts and, in fact, partner with many to support education for families and generational impact.

Is New Heights a public school?
How old do I need to be to enroll?
New Heights accepts all students ages 18-50 regardless of educational background and/or personal experiences. For example, if you turn 18 on December 3, you are eligible to start at the beginning of our next term (see the district calendar for term start dates). Students have until their 51st birthday to graduate.

Everyone is welcome, regardless of where you live, though you must attend classes in person at one of our Fort Worth campuses. But don't let getting to school be a barrier; we can help with transportation.

Where do I have to live in order to attend New Heights?
Our students pay nothing to attend New Heights. Educational programming, career training/certifications, and college credit are free to all students while enrolled. We provide full wraparound services and resources, including child care, transportation, and mental health counseling, with subsidized or free support.

How much does it cost to attend?
Do I have to start high school over from the beginning?
No. You start with any transferable credits you have earned, as shown on the transcript(s) from your previous school(s). New Heights staff members obtain your transcript and work with your Advising Coach to create a personal graduation plan. Some students start with zero credits, others have more. We accept and support all students in pursuing high school, job credentials, and college.

Not if it doesn't work for your schedule. We offer multiple scheduling options, including full-time, part-time, day, and evening classes. You can take one class or six, depending on what works best for you. Click here to view the daily schedule.

Do I attend school all day Mon-Fri?
Yes! Thanks to our partnerships with multiple educational institutions, including Tarrant County College, all
New Heights students have the opportunity to earn industry-based credentials that result in great careers and college-credit classes that can lead to an Associate's Degree. Our unique program enables you to take do high school and career certification classes at the same time!

community to align with local jobs?
Yes! Our goal is to enable you to earn a high school diploma AND career credentials or college credit to elevate your future job opportunities. That means partnering with businesses to ensure the classes we offer match their hiring needs and to secure access for direct hiring. No. All of our classes are in English, so if you need significant language assistance, our school might not be the right place for you yet. We offer English-language support, but we do not provide programming for English-language learners. Our students must already have a level of English fluency to progress, as our classes, the State STAAR assessments, and provider career and college classes are in English. Contact us so we may suggest the best path for you.

What kind of support is available to
me?
We believe in supporting you as a whole person. We know that juggling your responsibilities and school can be a challenge. Your Advising Coach will work with you to meet your evolving needs, including access to childcare, transportation assistance, mental health counseling, job placement, basic needs, and more.
It depends. Every student has an individual graduation plan based on their educational level, credits earned, and career goals. In your first term, you will work with your Advising Coach to develop your graduation roadmap. Your timeline will also be influenced by your availability and attendance. There is no right or wrong way to your journey!

How long will it take me to graduate?
Yes. All students are required to take English, Biology, and Algebra to graduate. If you have passed the STAAR exam, you will not have to retake it. We know testing can cause anxiety, but don't worry—we will give you all the support you need to take state tests successfully.

Do I need to take the STAAR test?
New Heights offers a teacher-led, relevant curriculum that meets Texas State Standards and employer needs. You will learn alongside teachers and peers in an interactive, collaborative environment, with attendance requirements for your scheduled classes. This is not an online program.

How will I be learning?
Yes. You will have days off throughout the year, including federal holidays, a week in the fall, about three weeks in winter, and a week for Spring Break. Our annual calendar is aligned with local school districts and Tarrant County College (TCC), so our students can be available for their school-age children and families while taking college and career classes.

Is there an actual graduation ceremony?
Yes! We love celebrating all our students as they achieve throughout the year, and we look forward to a big, exciting graduation ceremony at the end of the school year that welcomes families and friends. Be ready to put on your gown, walk the stage to accept your diploma, and throw your cap!

We are so excited that you plan to join us! A member of our Admissions Team will contact you shortly with the next steps, which include the enrollment process and, once approved, orientation. Your Admissions Coach will be with you every step of the way, helping you determine your class schedule and ensuring you have the support services you need. Don't worry, it's easy!
